An
occupational in-home assessment is conducted
at the claimant’s residence to identify pre-injury
activities of daily living, including personal
care, housekeeping, home maintenance, transportation
and community management. This assessment allows
an occupational therapist (OT) to evaluate the
claimant’s ability to meet functional requirements
and make recommendations related to safety concerns,
home layout modifications, assistive devices
or external assistance. Medisys’ OTs have the
ability to schedule assessments with minimal
notice to accommodate unique requests (i.e. hospital
discharges), and for motor vehicle accident (MVA)
claimants, they have experience completing the
“Attendant Care Form 1.” In unfortunate cases
of catastrophic injury, it is not unusual for
one of our senior OTs to visit the claimant while
ambulating in the hospital. The OT can be a
significant contributor to a successful hospital
discharge program.
