CT SCANNING: NON-INVASIVE AND PAINLESS
A non-invasive, painless medical test, CT scanning combines x-ray and computer technology to produce detailed images of the body. The major advantage of CT scanning is its ability to capture bone, soft tissue and blood vessels, making it ideal for a range of both preventive and diagnostic procedures.
CT scans are used to quickly and painlessly identify injuries or abnormalities of internal organs and are helpful in the early detection of lung cancer, colon cancer and heart disease.
CT HEART SCAN
Every year, there are an estimated 70,000 heart attacks in Canada. This non-invasive test detects and measures calcium build-up in the coronary arteries. It takes ten seconds and is a proven screening method to detect heart disease in people without symptoms.
Virtual colonoscopies are less invasive than conventional colonoscopies, but just as valid. They are used to detect early signs of colon cancer.
CT LUNG SCAN
In 2011, an estimated 25,300 Canadians were diagnosed with lung cancer. This non-invasive test identifies tumours one-tenth of the size of what can be detected with conventional x-rays.
CT DENTAL SCAN
This imaging technique provides images of the jaw and surrounding tissue for surgical planning of dental implants.
WHAT TO EXPECT
For the scan, you will lie on a CT examination table, either flat on your back, side or stomach. Pillows and other supports may be used to help position you during the procedure.
You may be asked to hold still and hold your breath at times, as the table moves slowly through the CT machine and the scan is performed. The exam usually takes only a few minutes, and our technicians help you stay comfortable and relaxed the whole time.
