MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive and painless diagnostic procedure that produces detailed images of soft tissues in the body.
What to expect
During the scan, you will lie on an exam table that will be moved inside a large magnet.
You will be asked to lie very still to ensure the diagnostic images are clear. Pillows and other supports may be used to help position you. MRIs generate noise, ranging from buzzing to knocking, so you will be given earplugs to maximize your comfort. Several sets of images will be taken.
Total scanning time will vary depending on your procedure.
HOW TO PREPARE
MRIs use strong magnets, so you will be asked to remove any loose metal objects, such as jewellery, and to wear clothing with no metal buttons or zippers.
Your doctor and Medvue technologists will be happy to answer any questions and guide you through the preparation process.
